TechTogether Boston is a 2-day hackathon for people of marginalized genders hosted by community leaders across Massachusetts. The event will take place October 29-30th in the George Sherman Union at Boston University.
Join us for two full days of skill-building and professional development workshops, networking with recruiters, and of course - fun activities like face masks. Each attendee has the option to work with a team to build a project like a website or mobile application with the support of our mentors. Whether it's your first hackathon or your 100th, everyone has something to learn and contribute at this event!
Your project will be submitted through Devpost. Click on the "Submit Project" button at the top of the site to access the Devpost. Your submission must include a video (no longer than 2 minutes) that showcases your project, a basic description of your project, and the challenge(s) for which you want your project to be considered.
The locations of all workshops, activities, and events throughout the weekend will be on the event schedule.
Find a mentor at the mentoring table or send a request for a mentor through a form (more details to come). We will also have mentors walking around tables.
Make sure to check the event schedule to stay up to date on important hackathon deadlines and everything you need to know about what's going on throughout the weekend! Announcements and reminders will also be broadcasted on the Discord server in case you forget.
All teams must be between 2-4 people. While you have the option to work alone, if you want to submit your project you must work with at least one other person. Don't worry if you don't have a team—you'll have plenty of opportunities to find one! TechTogether will be hosting a variety of team formation activities throughout the first day, and we will also have a space dedicated to team formation during the event.
The hackathon is from Oct 28th (virtually for 1-day) to Oct 30th date. This event will be in-person at George Sherman Union. Participants can start arriving at 7 am on Oct 29th and the event will conclude at 4 pm on Oct 30th. Participants will need to arrange their own transportation to and from the event.
No. Although the Discord channel opens on Tuesday of the week of the hackathon, nothing else about the event will be virtual.
We recommend bringing basic hygiene products, clothes, a sleeping bag with a pillow and blanket, and laptops/phones with chargers.
All people of marginalized genders ages 14+ are welcome! This includes high school, college, bootcamp students, and industry professionals who are cisgender women, transgender men, transgender women, non-binary people, and people of all other genders that have been historically left on the sidelines in tech.
Hackathons are events where people with an interest in tech come together to collaborate on innovative group projects, learn new skills from workshops, and network with their peers.
Our event is free to attend! The only thing we ask for is your time for a weekend full of learning, fun, and networking!
No experience is needed at all! TechTogether especially welcomes first-time hackers! There will be plenty of beginner-friendly workshops to explore different avenues of tech and level up your technical skills.
Submitting a project is optional. While you're more than welcome to attend the hackathon just for the workshops, we hope that you'll embrace the full hackathon experience by working on a project with a team.
No, you are free to leave the venue and come back anytime you want. Our venue check-in opens at 7 am (Oct 29th) and doesn't close until 4 pm (Oct 30th)
